Urloxhey Stables operates at a scale few equestrian facilities ever reach. Home to around 140 elite racehorses, including a Grand National winner, the primary site spans vast fields, training areas, and stable blocks dedicated to both fence-jumping and flat-racing disciplines.

With horses of this calibre, the stakes are high: their welfare, safety, and day-to-day oversight demand absolute precision. Staff move constantly across the estate, horses are exercised in multiple locations, and activity unfolds over a wide geographic footprint. Urloxhey’s challenge was compounded by the facility’s rural location. Traditional broadband simply wasn’t available, yet the team needed high-bandwidth connectivity capable of supporting modern, high-resolution CCTV and reliable communications across the estate. Surveillance had to reach remote fields nearly a kilometre from the main buildings, many without access to a power supply, while still delivering the clarity and reliability required for welfare monitoring, insurance compliance, and security.

Harnessing Starlink and Smart Surveillance to Cover Every Field

Everything EPOS began by building the one thing Urloxhey Stables had never been able to rely on: a stable, high-bandwidth connectivity backbone. With no traditional broadband available, the team deployed satellite-based internet from Starlink to deliver fast, reliable internet to the main site. Next, we engineered a network of long-distance point-to-point wireless bridges capable of carrying high-resolution CCTV streams across nearly a kilometre of open countryside. Multiple high-capacity access points were installed to blanket the estate with strong Wi-Fi, while the main office and stable blocks were hard-wired to guarantee maximum reliability where day-to-day operations are most concentrated.

With the core network in place, the next challenge was extending surveillance into the remote fields where horses spend much of their time. Everything EPOS designed and installed solar-powered camera stations on posts throughout the downfield areas, overcoming the lack of access to power. Directional Wi-Fi links delivered connectivity to these distant locations, ensuring each camera could stream crisp, high-resolution footage back to the central system.

With high-resolution CCTV covering every stable block, training area, and distant field, the team now has complete visibility across the entire primary site. Horses are monitored continuously without disruption, giving owners and staff total confidence in their welfare and safety.
